Tip #4. Slow down to save money on gas
A very effective way to save gas. While each vehicle on the road attains its optimal fuel economy at a different speed, maybe even a range of speeds, gas mileage decreases rapidly at any speeds above 60 mph for all cars.
It is always safe to assume that every 5 mile per hour that you drive over 60 mph is equivalent to paying an additional ~$0.20 per gallon for gas. To save gas, you just need to slow down. As another benefit, observing the speed limit is also safer.
Improve Fuel Economy from slowing down: 7-23%
Equivalent Gas Savings are: $0.25-$0.81/gallon
